WWF ‘In Hot Water’
Twelve Decibels are honoured to be music and sound supervisors on yet another incredible film for WWF. ‘In Hot Water’ aired on the opening day of COP29 and marks the fourth in an award-winning series by NOMINT. As the title suggests, this film focuses on the rising sea temperatures, specifically 'ocean heatwaves' which are causing widespread devastation and happening all too frequently thanks to the continued burning of fossil fuels globally.
Each year, NOMINT creates something beautiful and powerful with their art, using techniques that push what's creatively possible. For COP29 they set themselves their biggest challenge yet: shooting a stop-motion animation entirely on a thermal camera. If you can't quite get your head around this, you're not alone… we couldn't either! Every piece of the animation had to be kept at a specific temperature to show the desired colour. The behind the scenes film below beautifully shows off the process.

WWF advert featuring Radiohead and Leftfield: Music and sound supervision by Twelve Decibels
As music and sound supervisors we had an ambitious idea to bring together two iconic artists. Radiohead’s “No Surprises” was the perfect track in terms of lyrics, providing the emotional depth and beauty that the film required. Working with Warner Chappell Music, we were thrilled that Neil Barnes of Leftfield was equally enthusiastic about the concept and challenge. Neil used his experience and incredible unique sound palette to transform “No Surprises” into a magical underwater realm before ultimately shifting the track into much more troubled waters.
"We were so honoured to be asked to play a very minor part in this. Beautiful images, a beautiful song with a very powerful and urgent message. It's so moving. Art can be so powerful."
Neil Barnes, Leftfield.
Now we had a brilliant soundtrack featuring Radiohead and Leftfield, we wanted to collaborate with the right sound studio to further immerse the listener in the film. Sine Audio were the perfect partners and helped craft the final result which beautifully enhances both the visuals and the story, highlighting a powerful collaboration of creative talent at every stage.
